We wish you all a very merry Christmas and hope for Happy New Year. Christmas will be very different for us all this year and we sincerely hope 2021 brings a solution to the COVID pandemic and a return to something of a normal way of life. We don't send out Christmas cards but give money to charity instead. This year our choice of charities has been influenced by the pandemic and its effects on people's lives. We have chosen Mind because of the effect COVID and lockdowns have had on mental health and the Trussell Trust because of the food poverty caused by the pandemic.
We prefer to support charities that not only help those in need but also fight to reduce or remove the need in the first place.
The Trussell Trust support a nationwide network of food banks and provide emergency food and support to people locked in poverty. Importantly they also campaign for change to end the need for food banks in the UK. A country as rich as ours should not see people needing food banks to survive.
Mind provide advice and support to empower anyone experiencing a mental health problem. They also campaign to improve services, raise awareness and promote understanding.
